Hi,
Following the London bombings, an initiative was taken to meet emergency. This effort aims at spreading awareness of the ICE concept. ICE stands for In Case of Emergency.
Putting ICE along with a name and telephone number in your mobile phone will enable the emergency services to contact your family in the event of an emergency.
The number can be of a person who is to be contacted in case of emergencies like accident, natural disaster or a terrorist attack.
Bob Brotchie, a clinical team leader for the East Anglian Ambulance NHS Trust, is the person behind the idea of ICE. He came up with this concept after struggling to get contact details from shocked and injured patients.
A few non-government organisations and Web sites have also been spreading awareness about ICE concept. According to www.icecontact.com, eight out of 10 people do not carry details about their next of kin.
Since most of the people carry mobile phones, it becomes important to save the ICE number to enable immediate help in times of crisis.
All one needs to do is, type the acronym ICE followed by a contact name (for example, ICE - Mum or ICE - Akash) into the address book of your mobile phone and save their phone number
